As an admirer of the growth and development of Vanguard Theater Company, Marshall is thrilled to direct Pipeline, his fourth time directing the work of Dominique Morisseau. He is a professional theater producer, director, educator, artist, and activist whose primary love is directing plays. Last fall, Marshall directed an acclaimed production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Primary Trust at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, which ranked #3 on the Minnesota Star Tribune's Top Ten list for 2025.

For 21 years beginning in 2002, Marshall served as Head of BA Theater at Rutgers University before being promoted to Associate Dean for Access at the Mason Gross School of the Arts. He founded and directed the Rutgers Summer Acting Conservatory for High School Students (2003 to 2023), where more than 750 high school students lived on campus each July and studied the craft of acting.

Beginning in 2007, he spent 13 seasons as Producing Artistic Director of the Tony Award®-winning Crossroads Theatre Company. There he produced and directed successful shows including Lift by best-selling author Walter Mosley, which transferred Off-Broadway, and Repairing a Nation by Nikkole Salter, which was televised by WNET. Marshall has directed two Off-Broadway productions, more than 12 world premieres, and countless productions at regional theaters across the US.

From 2010 to 2018, he served on the Board of the Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national service organization for nonprofit theaters. He is now proud to serve as President of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance. He also serves on the Boards of Trustees of the Tent Theater and the legendary Actors Fund Home in Englewood, NJ. In 2020, he was inducted into the Rutgers University African American Hall of Fame. He earned his undergraduate degree at Rutgers and a master's in Arts Management from New York University.
